Kia Recalling 145,000 Vehicles Due to Airbag Defect

Kia Motors America has announced that it will recall 2006-2008 Kia Optimas and 2007-2008 Rondos because of a faulty air bag release system. The recall of vehicles will affect 145,000 cars. The defect is described as the clock spring contact assembly for the driver's side air bag can become damaged
over time causing the warning to light on the dashboard to display. this can potentially cause the air to fail to deploy in the event of a crash.
According to Kia, if the clock spring contact assembly becomes damaged, the electrical circuit that is required to deploy the air bag could experience a high resistance condition. Kia Motors also stated they would notify owners and replace the faulty assembly at no cost to the owners. The recall is scheduled to begin in March.
