The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration is expanding a recall of Honda Accords in North America. The recall is the correct a power steering fluid leak that can cause a fire under the hood of the car. Honda has said it is recalling 573,147 Accords in the U.S. equipped with V6 engines from model years 2003 through 2007. According to the company the power steering hose in the cars can deteriorate prematurely due to high temperatures which results in cracks and leaks. These leaks can cause a loss of power steering assistance or smoke and possibly cause a fire.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail next year when the new hoses are ready for installation. If owners feel their car is experiencing any of the symptoms, it is recommended to take the car to a dealer for an interim repair.
