GM annouced a recall of certain 2012 Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala models in the U.S. and Canada for two spereate defects related to the steering systems.

The first recall is of 4,293 LaCrosses because of an incorrect calibration of the Stabilitrak electronic stability system. According to reports, a malfunction int he system could cause it to "falsely activate" which could result in a sudden change in the vehicle handling and deceleration. It could result in a crash without any warning according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration.

In a seperate recall, GM is recalling 11,905 2012 Impala models to checky for faulty installation of the power steering hose. The reports state that a wrongly placed hose could be damaged and spray fluid onto hot parts of the engine, creating a potential fire hazard.

GM has stated that it has no reports or crashes or injuries related to either defect. The 16,198 owners affected by the recalls will receive letters in the mail from the company this month.
