Alcohol is Still Number 1 in Causing Fatal Car Crashes

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a third of all fatal car accidents are caused by the driver having a blood alcohol concentration of over .08%. This proportion has not changed since 1994.

For the year 2015, the IIHS estimates that 7,000 deaths could have been prevented if those driving had a BAC of lower than .08%.

Other drugs are increasingly contributing to fatal auto accidents but alcohol has remained in the top position. Marijuana is the most common drug found in drivers other than alcohol.

With so many options for getting a ride home these days, there is no reason a person should drive under the influence. Call a friend. Call a cab. Order an Uber. Do not put your life and others' lives in danger by getting behind the wheel if you are not sober.

With reckless drivers on the road, it is clear to see how easily accidents can happen.
