2017 Memorial Weekend Traffic More Dangerous than 2016

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, SC had more traffic accidents and fatalities this Memorial Weekend than the 2016 time frame.

Thirteen people were killed across the state in auto accidents this year compared to eight deaths last year. The time frame includes the Friday of Memorial Weekend at 6pm through Monday, Memorial Day, at midnight.

Last year, Horry County saw no traffic related deaths during the time frame, however, this year, several deaths tallied up by the end.

Some of the fatal accidents included an off duty police officer as well as a young man in the military visiting South Carolina. These tragic accidents happened amongst the influx of traffic to Myrtle Beach for the Memorial Weekend Bike Fest.
